My Automated Lawn Sprinkler System Project
In my junior year, I always wanted to build an automated sprinkler for our lawn. I wanted to use it in the summer and I set out to collect the materials I needed for the project before spring. I decided to team with my friend who was good at programming Arduino microcontrollers to interface it with the sprinkler. With the help and support of my family, I collected all the materials needed including the microcontroller. We used to meet with my friend every day after school to work on the project. Before spring, my friend lost his dad who was deployed in Afghanistan as a medic and they had top move. He also had to take a job with McDonalds to supplement the family income. All of sudden, we could not meet anymore and he could hardly find time to program the Arduino microcontroller. I tried learning programming but it was nearly impossible. Eventually, I shelved the idea because I felt there was no way i could learn Arduino programming as I had focused on the mechanical aspects of the project.
