**It must specifically address three elements of the chosen topic:
A review of what the causes of the water issue are. Your exploration should draw on the natural and social science literature. For instance, continuting the water supply in Saudi Arabia example, you would need to mention that water supply in Saudia Arabia would always be short because it is a desert. If they use groundwater in Saudia Arabia you should mention this too. Also, why is there a supply issue – what is the water being used for? Does the energy industry use water?
An exploration of the management and policy responses made about the water issue. Note that failures are important to document as well. For instance, you could explore efforts to augment supply by drilling deeper for groundwater, investing in desalination plants, or attempts to purchase water from other supplying nations.
An exploration of how the issue is likely to change in the future, given the existence of climate change, global growth of population, and global growth of the economy. Again, in the example of Saudi Arabia, climate change and population increases may drive water demand up, while groundwater supplies may dwindle (or not).

The intent of this paper is to propose an investigation on Lake Erie to gather insights on Water-Energy-Food-Climate Nexus. Eutrophication alludes to the increase in plant life in water bodies due to an increase in the nutrient levels that is often brought by runoff. Lake Erie is one of the great lakes found in North America. The lake is the shallowest and most productive among the Laurentian Great Lakes (Kane, Conroy, & Peter, 2014). Over the past five decades, the great lakes have experienced an increase in eutrophication. The phenomenon has had a substantial impact on the quality of water in Lake Erie, which has compromised its productivity to the ecosystem and the people. Since the 1960s and 1970s, eutrophication has been caused by the excessive phosphorus that is drawn from the point and nonpoint sources (Michalak, Anderson, & Beletsky, 2013). Consequently, there has been increased algal blooms in the lake, which consequently leads to reduced water clarity and quality. The lake is in the southernmost of the Laurentian Great Lakes and is shared by the United States and Canada. It is evident that eutrophication has had a substantial impact on the Water-energy-food-climate nexus for both countries despite efforts to mitigate the challenge. Effective engagement in understating the implications of eutrophication in the lake and the issues in its management can set the way forward for a sustainable change.
In addressing the issue at Lake Erie, the USA and Canadian governments have engaged in integrated strategies that are focused on reducing the nutrients draining into the lake. These undertakings include a phosphorous loading reduction throughout the Laurentian by signing the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement. Notably, the initiative had a substantial impact as predicted by various models because it resulted in profound and significant ecological responses.
