The politics of reparation and apologies studies, social and political affairs which affected many people during the Second World War. It examines the dynamics and evolution of reparation politics and justice. As a result of the war, many countries became victims as the war impacted negatively on the citizens. This paper uses the same perspective to discuss the Rwandan Genocide and how the international justice system played a role in the reparation politics in the country.
Impact of the Western Countries
The western countries brought significant effects before, during and after the genocide in different ways. Before the war, countries such as Germany were involved in acquiring slaves, weapon and other necessary materials to help them in fighting before the war beganCITATION Lin14 \p 68 \l 1033 (Melvern 68). Many slaves were obtained from different parts of the world. This had a negative impact on some people, especially where the slaves were obtained from because the families were exposed to psychological torture and were left with much fear of whether their family members would survive in the war. Therefore, it was a challenge to such families.
Moreover, the physical separation made them more fearful since they were prone to attacks. All the weapons which were obtained in preparation for the war were used to train the war militants on how to fight effectivelyCITATION Lin14 \p 74 \l 1033 (Melvern 74). In the process of training and preparation for the war, some members got injured while others died. Hence, the pre-war preparation had negative impacts on the lives of those involved.
There were many more impacts of the western countries during the war most of which were negative. For instance, there was a mass killing of people. The war is said to be the worst war in history which claimed the lives of millions of people across the globe. Many people died in the war since their counterparts used superior weapons such as guns and atomic bombs which would kill a large number of people at one time. Most of the slaves who had not been fully trained were massively killed since most of the western countries had learned the tactics of fighting before. The western countries also impacted negatively on other states because they facilitated the destruction of property. Large companies were burnt down, and much property was looted. This led to a decline in the world economy since most countries lacked enough resources to run their citizens.
