Paraphilia is a common issue in contemporary society. It was formerly described as sexual deviation or sexual preservation. There is no consensus between paraphilia and unsexual interests due to continuous debates, assumptions, and different principles. The main issue under debate is classifying paraphilia under DSM or ICD. Due to intense debates, there are assumptions that there are 549 types of paraphilia. However, others believe that there is more than that. Due to such disagreement, it is essential to conduct consistent and coherent research. Paraphilia is a significant sexual issue due to its adverse impacts on different populations, especially minors. Paraphilia has been heavily experienced in the late 19th century due to consistent change and digital transformation. Besides, the word was also identified by Eulenburg in 1914, who strongly believed in sexual orientation and development. Therefore, paraphilia is a key aspect that must be taken very seriously due to its adverse impacts on the young generation.

I decided to choose paraphilia among the adults since it is a common issue heavily affecting human sexuality. Paraphilia is also common among older adults since they are considered sexually active regardless the age. Human sexuality is essential since it defines the behaviors, thoughts, and feelings but with a focus on sexual productivity (Hertlein et al., 2019). Understanding human sexuality is paramount since it offers adequate guidance and management of issues such as paraphilia. Managing paraphilia requires a well-established sexual and teaching program that would positively benefit the client. Therefore, I chose the topic to enhance my coordination and social work with old adults experiencing paraphilia.

The etiology of paraphilias among adults remains a major problem and a mystery since researchers have not succeeded in understanding and comparing it with other pathogenesis. Regardless of different studies attempting to link paraphilias with other biological factors, the major adverse impacts are socially-based. Paraphilia is considered an element of human sexuality due to the aspect of drives and irrational thinking. It drives the older adults to unique sexual acts, which may lead to antisocial behaviors such as rape (Perrotta, 2019). The major problem of paraphilias is that it may jeopardize the social behaviors of older adults who should have reliable behaviors. Therefore, the major consequence is that it adversely impacts older adults' self-esteem.

The research shows a critical relationship between sexually coercive behavior and paraphilia sexual interest, which takes two major forms sexual sadism and exhibitionism. The two elements are critical since they impact older adults' sexual relationships and life. According to research, paraphilia affects the causal relationship among older adults. Besides, the paraphilic behavior among older adults leads to sexual offenses detrimental to human sexuality. Therefore, managing paraphilias among older adults would adequately benefit different populations.
