Term Paper Instructions:

https://www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=OIBpHO1gZgQ this is the opening scene to the godfather movie, running 7.01 mins For your final paper pick a dramatic scene from one of the films on the list I've sent you.the godfather is the movie i chose. Define "scene" as any extended exchange or dramatic encounter between two or more people. Be sure your scene is important, that it contributes significantly to the thrust or theme of the film Organize your discussion by briefly introducing the scene, the film, the director and the actors and their characters. Explain the basic plot premise briefly and give essential back ground information for your scene. That's your introduction; make it clear, explanatory and succinct.

The body of your paper should be a fully detailed analytical discussion of how the scene works. Make sure to clearly explain the dramatic situation: circumstance, characters, environment & ensuing activity. Discuss as fully as necessary the use or function of all of the narrative or structural techniques we've observed in class: Believability, Characterization: Movement, Gesture and Verbal Delivery; the Flow or Development of the Activity of the scene, it's Organization; Edits, Cuts, the activity of the Camera: Camera Work: Framing, Cropping, Camera Position, Angles, Depth of Field etc; Light, Shadow & Color; the use or role of Space: Figure to Figure, Figure to Objects and/or the Space. Finally: in clear, explanatory detail, evaluate the role and importance of your scene and the success and quality of the film. Does it work; what is it's quality and why. Take your time. Try to be succinct, but explain everything as fully as possible. Use explicit, specific descriptive detail. Don't short change yourself: there is no required number of pages, but it's my experience that discussions of this complexity usually take at least 10 pages and often twice that. Remember that the final paper counts 2/3rds of your grade and, if very well done -that means thoroughly- then it can count for more.

Analysis Of The Film "The Godfather"
Introduction
The film begins as one character reports to The Godfather on the injustice which has been done to his daughter. He claims that he is a clean American but what his daughter has undergone from her Italian boyfriends is unbearable. As he weeps, he explains to the Godfather who he wants to initiate the justice to his daughter. The scene introduces the most significant theme of the film which is antagonism. The beginning scene of the movie is clearly foreshadows that in future, in the film there is a likelihood of arising conflicts as the father of the daughter will try to seek justice for her daughter. Even from his statement that he is ready to pay anything to see her daughter get justice, it clearly indicates that there will be conflicts between the two warring parties; the two Italian boyfriends and the superior’s enactors. From this introductory scene, it is also illuminated that crime is very prolific within the film society and it is done by the top rich individuals within the society. The difference in income levels makes it hard for the low class to get away with such crime as observed from the daughter’s father who is reporting to the Godfather. In the scene of the film we can also learn that there are some of the operations which are not even discussed openly to the clients. This is manifested when The Godfather whispers to his security in the presence of the client. It shows that they operate on secrecy and not all information is given out to the client. Though they are not in agreement as Connie is not clear on the decision but the daughter’s father is satisfied with the decision and appreciate as he moves out. The scene also expounds on the injustice when the two boys who traumatized the girl are set free with no charges.
