Case: Vetter and his wife are adherents of the Jewish faith. Vetter selected the town in which he wished to relocate on the basis of its having an active religious community of his faith. His employer objected because it was too far from the place of employment. The first issue is whether an employee's residence may be determined by an employer. The second is, if so, may an exception be carried out to accommodate this employee because of his religious beliefs?

Under the United States Constitution’s clauses, religion is protected. Supp. 1287 (N.D. lowa 1995), the plaintiff was terminated from his employment for insisting to live in a location from where his employer had offered accommodation and outside their area of sale. The plaintiff moved to court to allege that his employer had subjected him to disparate treatment based on his religion and failure to accommodate it. The defendant had claimed that he had provided adequate accommodation for the plaintiff. The case does not only raise the question of religious accommodation in the workplace but also are employers supposed to decide where their employees live? Where employees live can affect the businesses of their employers.
