Program goals and objectives
The Florida Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) program focuses on improving the health and developmental outcomes for at-risk-children by relying on evidence-based home visiting programs (2020). Quality home visiting is a priority to help the families thrive where there is emphasis on data to drive continuous quality improvement. FL MIECHV complies with federal regulations to deliver high-quality home visits and to ensure there is quality assurance and accountability. Through a public-private partnership, there are supportive services to mothers mostly those in the high-risk communities and this helps to serve the families.
Interventions
To achieve its objectives FL MIECHV funds programs that have a positive impact on families and facilitate good working relations with families in trusted environments. The projects prioritized are those targeting the high-need communities where there is focus on skills, competencies and empowerment of the parents and caregivers so they are better placed to assist the children thrive in a supportive, safe and healthy environment. The program gives support to the families and information on children’s development
Nurses are directly involved in facilitating safe and healthy pregnancies and improving child development. Through nurse-family partnership there is focus on improving the material and newborn health for individual families and communities and support for the well-being of the children. FL MIECHV supports the evidence-based home visiting program focusing on the models of nurse-family partnership, parents as teachers, and healthy families Florida (Alitz et al., 2018). There is increased awareness and health knowledge is addressed to improve health outcomes and data on the communities provides insights on what is linked to health disparities.
