While fertilizer is usually important in the improvement of farm produce, it also contributes to pollution through agricultural runoff. Agricultural runoff usually occurs when the rain water or any other source of water carries over the loose soil and its elements from farms, taking them to other water bodies or places. The elements in these soils from farms are mostly fertilizer. Farmers are therefore supposed to find ways of reducing this agricultural runoff, so as to also cut back on the environmental pollution that comes as a result of it.
