Research Paper Instructions:

Columbia University professor John McWhorter argues that anti-racism has become something akin to a ‘religious movement’ and is potentially as harmful as racism itself. To what extent do you agree and/or disagree with his stance?

First, present arguments, and then argue your nuanced own position. You do not necessarily have to be in total agreement or disagreement. Draw upon other academic sources if necessary.
INFORM US - Adequately explain the context of the ethical issue.
This part consists in demonstrating a clear understanding of the ethical/political issue including, where applicable, the correct definitions, the various parties involved, any historical context, case studies, scientific facts, and findings, and/or statistics needed to understand the issue. It may be helpful to provide any legal implications and important case studies to help illustrate the issue. About half of your research should be directed at this section.
CONVINCE US - Present the moral dilemma surrounding your issue by either defending a position on the issue or explaining the various stances that envelope the debate.
In this section, it is your job to describe the conflict of values that make your ethical issue complex and problematic. You must take a position and defend it while trying to persuade your peers that your position is right while applying at least 2 ethical concepts/notions or theories we have seen in the course to the ethical issue in question.

Ethical Issues: Work Racism Argumentative Essay
In the video, John McWhorter equates racism to religion to mean that it is hurting the black Americans. According to him the whites are less concerned about how the blacks live and are not ready to help them. Furthermore, the white individuals behave as if they do not know that racism exists. Racial discrimination refers to the unfair treatment of individuals considering their ethnic and racial backgrounds. The persistent racial inequities in employment, housing, and other areas of society have reopened the conversation concerning the consequent adverse effects. Even if there is less evidence of discrimination today than before the Civil War, when it was overt and prevalent, conceptualizing it in social science poses challenges. This work reviews bias, focusing on instances of racial discrimination in workplaces. This paper also explores an individual's dilemma toward the whole matter based on the ethnic notions surrounding racism.
Literature Review
When defining racial discrimination, many scholars and legalities distinguish between differentiating treatment and having unbalanced effects, thus creating a double-edged definition: Individuals receive a different kind of treatment based on their racial background. When everyone is treated with equality as per the existing policies, but the rules favor a set of individuals over others, this may result in biased outcomes (Dovidio 79). The last part of this description applies to options and procedures which might lack a clear ethnic argument but are capable of developing or sustaining racial bias. Institutional practices like these and more traditional forms of personal discrimination are crucial when analyzing how valued employment opportunities are constructed based on race.
Any definition of discrimination must focus on behavior as a component. Racial attitudes, beliefs, and ideologies, which may also be connected to racial disadvantage, are distinct from discrimination. However, the definition of discrimination does not imply any particular underlying cause (Kim 857). Prejudice, stereotypes, or racism may equally fuel discrimination. Numerous ways to determine and track the prevalence of discrimination have developed through psychological and scientific curiosity based on the issue. Despite the fact every approach presents setbacks, they still offer several viewpoints which can aid in our understanding of it and how much bias impacts the existence of ethnic minorities in contemporary America.
Case Studies
Studies have inquired about African Americans' and other racial minorities' encounters with prejudice in social contexts such as workplaces. However, the frequency with which discrimination is reported in this research is disappointing. For example, a 2001 study showed that over 35% of African American informants and approximately 20% of Asian and Spaniard respondents indicated they faced personal ignorance due to their ethnic background or race for employment or advancement at their workplaces (Kim 890). In addition, the recurrence of bias cases does not reduce as one goes up the social ladder; African Americans in the middle-income category are probably exposed to ethnic or raci...
