Gangs’ Criminal Activities in Society
Introduction
A gang denotes a group of associates or members with a defined internal organization that controls a community territory and participates in illegal and violent behavior or activities (Yearwood & Hayes 3). Perceptions of youth crime and youth gangs: A statewide systemic investigation. NC Criminal Justice Analysis Center, Governor's Crime Commission. Gangs are increasingly typical in societies today. Most importantly, the world is observing an intense transformation in the modern youth experience because many gang members are youths who, in turn, might be jobless. The gangs do not impact society positively; however, they lead to destruction, innocent killings, kidnapping, blackmailing, etc., all leading to adverse societal outcomes. Different studies have supported that these gangs engage in various activities across societies and tend to promote violence alongside performing them. Gang groups are socially dangerous and involve human/sex trafficking, robbery, bank fraud, and drug trafficking.
Various Activities that Gang Groups carry out in Society
Gangs Involve in human/sex trafficking
Human/sex trafficking is also a typical practice among gang groups worldwide. Most importantly, Lederer (1) argues that 38 Crips gang fellows, their asserted associates, and two restaurant bosses were detained in Oceanside, California, for participating in a sex-trafficking scandal that included prostitution amongst adults and young females. Being lucky to stay alive, not receiving thorough beatings, and getting food were the only rewards for the actions. The author claimed that human or sex trafficking would have never been exposed if one female victim had not protested against the actions.
According to the article, the cases mentioned above are just a few instances of more gang groups' involvement in trafficking. A close evaluation of these cases offers proof of an evident linkage between trafficking and gangs in America. In the past decade, America developed legislation and coached an implementation unit to handle criminal gang actions. Moreover, Congress formed and approved a detailed law in 2000 to concentrate on mitigating trafficking. However, the two attempts ran parallel for a decade without an efficient approach to getting them together (Lederer 3).
Gangs engage in robberies within communities.
There has been an association between street gang groups and robbery. This is a common activity among these groups operating majorly on streets. Gangsters always expect quick cash. The urge forces them to maintain appearances by exhibiting "the fetishized consumption of personal, nonessential, status-enhancing items," which the article confirms by acknowledging that street cu...
