Introduction
Physical appearance is the outward look as can be seen by other people. Physical appearance is concerned with the body shape, hair color, sex, skin tone, eye color and all other features of the body that can easily be observed. The appearance in school age children has vast effects especially to how they relate with each other in school, playgrounds and social centers. Physical appearance is a great concern to children between 5 to 12 years of age.
Main Body
Children are social beings. At the age of 5 to 12, school age children are active in different ways. Peer acceptance is an important thing to these children. Children are well known to engage themselves in certain behaviors and characters so as to be part of a group. Their physical appearance plays a major role in being accepted by their peers. It is the responsibility of parents to engage in talks to their children on such sensitive matters concerning their physical appearance and on how to be accepted amongst their peers
Friendship in school age children majorly is between members of the same sex. Young children find members of the opposite sex to be strange. In playgrounds and social places for children, young boys and young girls tend to isolate themselves and engage in activities separately. In school age children, the peer group provides that support that mainly comes from the parents. Peers who fit together tend to relate better and be of great effect to one another impacting each other’s lives (Mannheim Para 4).
