Thesis
The gap between men and women has been growing over a period of time in China. The gap is marked with various inequities in the field of employment and labor supply. One of the main factors that contributes to the growth of such a gap is slow implementation of policies that are intended to support the female gender. There is need to ensure that there is no gap that exists between men and women in the society.
Introduction
One of the most significant social changes that have taken place in the world and human history is the transformation of gender relations. For more than 7,000 years of the human history, since the beginning of Agriculture and emergence of the early states, male domination has characterized the gender relations of the societies and the successors of such societies CITATION Sel15 \l 1033 (Selin). At the beginning of the 20th century, men and women were viewed as occupying different roles in the society. On one side, the woman's role was that of a wife, and she was supposed to remain at home and take care of the family. The man on the other side was in the public sphere, and he was associated with leadership roles in the society. Due to this view, the men also had legal powers over the wife and the children. During such time, wife beating not strictly legal in the United States even though the perpetrators of domestic violence did not face any consequences as a punishment for committing domestic violence. The women in China are channeled into low-wage and low status consumer service jobs that in which they are required to learn the fragile femininity that justifies the placement of women in such positions. In the year 2014, I had an experience of the same situation at my workplace. Our company was in need of more than 400 employees who would be assigned different roles at the company. I was one of the members who were supposed to come up with the qualifications for one be qualified as our staff. After discussing a number of points, one of the board members suggested that there was need to lower the number of female applicants. Although I was amused by the suggestion, majority of the members in the board seconded the idea. We came up with different conditions such as it was necessary for a female applicant to be married so that they would be considered for the job. Although we did not openly mention the point, we asked all the applicants to provide us with their personal information especially on marriage and family plans. The above q...
