Are School Uniforms Beneficial?
What would be your first reaction is school uniforms were banned? I am sure most of us would be shocked but happy at the same time. A blazer, shirt, and tie are not the ideal outfits for most of the teenagers. It is a common tradition around the world for parents to take pictures of their children during their first day at school. Most pictures involve children wearing school uniforms. Many parents around the world support the idea of school uniforms. The paper is an argumentative essay that shows the importance of school uniform.
Wearing a school uniform is like putting on a badge of pride. School uniforms create a feeling of belonging and make someone feel important. Also, the identity of a school is created and promoted by the school uniform. School uniforms reduce bullying and peer pressure by leveling the field among the students (Rice 3). Since all the students are dressed in the same way, it is hard for competition to arise between the students over the choice of dressing. Also, school uniforms reduce the chances of students being teased. The chances of those wearing less fashionable outfits and cheap clothes are eliminated.
School uniforms create an environment where there is an emphasis on discipline. A certain level of discipline is required to meet the code of the school uniform. Also, parents need to be disciplined so that they can help their children meet the required standards (Jessica 10). Discipline not only helps in school life but also in other aspects of life. This makes it easier for the children in school uniforms to stay focused on their studies by completing their homework and promoting respect among others. Another advantage of school uniforms is that students do not take most of their time preparing in the morning. Students who already have a dress code are always aware of what they will wear every morning to school. Those who go to school in their home clothes tend to spend a lot of time dressing up.
