The Masters School at Dobb’s Ferry in New York is a day and boarding school for 5 to 12 graders and uses an explorative and expansive curriculum to empower the students to be independent and innovative thinkers. Most of the faculty members at the private institution are holders of advanced degrees. A class at Masters School has an average of 14 students. The school’s location in the state capital, its relative affordability and the fact that it takes many students to higher levels of education makes it unique and highly sought after.
The exceptionally high quality of education at Masters School and the availability of teaching resources give the institution its major strengths. For instance, on the quality of education, the school uses a unique method of teaching known as Harkness methodology that is transformative in a big way. With this methodology, an oval table is availed in each classroom and students sit around it share their ideas and opinions freely. The teachers are highly qualified and the landscape is good to allow for better learning. In terms of resources, the school has a good number of teachers and other non-teaching staff that are all enthusiastic, passionate and dedicated to their work. Teachers for instance, are always readily available in case they are needed to help the students in all areas of life and not just in academics. The teachers’ passion for teaching is also real and they go to great lengths to ensure that their classes succeed. The curriculum too, is one other strength to the institution since it is advanced. The facilities are also of great state and quality. For example, the school has an art studio, a gymnasium room, a Claudia Boettcher theatre, many classrooms, a science and technology center, a library, computer labs, just to mention a few.
