Short Campaign Speeches for U.S. Presidency

Research Paper Instructions:

My assigned country is Denmark for Homework 7-Part 2 of 4

 PART 1

1.Pick any candidate in the 2020 Democratic primaries other than Joe Biden, and familiarize yourself with what the candidate has written/said in the campaign.   Imagine that this candidate had been chosen as the 2020 Democratic nominee for President instead of Biden. Write a short campaign speech  (no more than 1 page) reflecting  that candidate’s thinking. The speech should have both positive statement about the candidate and   negative campaigning, e.g.,   the speech could attack  President Trump’s  approach or record of achievement in  one or more policy arenas. This speech  may also attack President Trump more generally (e.g., for corruption, lies, incompetence, or abuse of his presidential powers) and it can also attack the Republican party, even though that should not be the main feature

PROVIDE REFERENCES FOR YOUR SOURCE MATERIAL. (worth 2 points)

2.For the same candidate,  familiarize yourself  with anything President Trump may have said/tweeted about that candidate and with other tweets/statements of President Trump about Democrats more generally if there is no info about Trump’s view of that candidate now that his tweets have been deleted.  Now again imagine that your candidate is President Trump’s Democratic opponent in 2020 and write a short campaign speech (no more than 1 page) for President Trump. That speech  should reflect what you know of President Trump’s views and  his rhetorical style.  It should include an attack on  the Democratic candidate’s approach or record of achievement in  one or more policy arenas. This speech  may also attack that candidate more generally (e.g., for corruption, or lies, or incompetence, or abuse of past elected office). And it can also attack the Democratic party, even though that should not be the main feature.

PROVIDE REFERENCES FOR YOUR SOURCE MATERIAL. (worth 2 points)

NOTE: IN BOTH SPEECHES YOU ARE ACTING AS A PROFESSIONAL SPEECHWRITER, SEEKING TO ACCURATELY AND EFFECTIVELY PORTRAY THE VIEWS OF THE PERSON WHOSE SPEECH YOU ARE WRITING  – NOT TO EXPRESS YOUR OWN PERSONAL VIEWS!! AND YOU ARE TRYING TO MIMIC THAT CANDIDATE’S STYLE OR THE RHETORICAL STYLE OF PRESIDENT TRUMP.

PART 2

2.    Identify a major party candidate for president (or the party head who would become prime minister), in the most recent national election in your assigned  country.  Write a short campaign speech  (no more than 3 paragraphs) reflecting  that candidate’s thinking. The speech should have both positive statements and some  negative campaigning and MUST reflect your knowledge of the specifics of the issues that are most relevant in that country.

(worth 2 points)

In a past week, you have been skimming material in Quirk about the environment.  A topic that has been  the news  in recent years is the desirability of the U.S. signing onto Paris Agreement for climate change control. The U.S., under President Obama signed this accord. On June 1, 2017, United States President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. would cease all participation in the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change mitigation, contending that the agreement would "undermine" the U.S. economy, and put the U.S. "at a permanent disadvantage.”

HOMEWORK 7
1 Pick any candidate in the 2020 Democratic primaries other than Joe Biden, and familiarize yourself with what the candidate has written/said in the campaign. Imagine that this candidate had been chosen as the 2020 Democratic nominee for President instead of Biden. Write a short campaign speech (no more than 1 page) reflecting that candidate's thinking. This speech may also attack President Trump more generally (e.g., for corruption, lies, incompetence, or abuse of his presidential powers) and it can also attack the Republican party, even though that should not be the main feature
Today, I speak for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders because I feel he is the best suit to take over Trump as the next President after analyzing his campaign manifesto. Bernie Sanders identifies himself as a democratic socialist and will most likely address America’s key issues, unlike Donald Trump, who he describes as a "pathological liar and somebody who doesn't believe that the rules apply to him, and somebody who is a bully”. Bernie plans to pass the Green New Deal, end coal exploration, and ban fracking. He also intends to introduce tuition-free higher education in all public colleges and universities. Additionally, gun control remains a major campaign issue which I feel Bernie will address much better than Donald Trump. Bernie feels on top of imposing federal assault weapons and imposing strong background checks; respective states should handle gun restrictions. Bernie also supports the implementation of medical health for all where government should provide health insurance for all.
Additionally, Bernie supports securing American borders but feels that the issue should not be politicized and instead done correctly without intimidating qualified immigrants like Donald Trump did in his tenure (Kelsey). Regarding taxes, Bernie feels that people earning more should be taxed more. Finally, trade remains a major aspect in America and securing America can be done by ensuring that U.S. companies do not outsource jobs. Sanders looks to be the ideal candidate to drive America to greater heights in as much as international trade, climate change, immigration policies, and free college education is concerned. However, the hidden vulnerability that threatens his candidature is that the democratic party does not feel safe with his strategy. Berners need to convince his party that he can transform America with his key points.
