Human biology and innovation are closely linked; some of the direct evidence can be seen in tools manufactured during 2.5 million years (Ma). The earliest evidence of human innovation comprised of sharp edges lump stones, hammer stones, and tools made of bones used for cutting. This technology is known as the Oldowan industrial complex named after where the tools were discovered in Olduvai Gorge. Humans during this period possessed an empirical understanding of mechanical properties. Stone tools and other artifacts are evident how humans were more superior than other animals. The Oldowan tools included hammer stones, stone core and sharp stone flakes and hand axes used for cutting.
