Research Methodology Assignment 1

Provisional Title of Research Proposal (up to 50 words)

The title of your research proposal should reflect the content

Aim of research (up to 30 words)

(supply an overall aim of the research, e.g. the aim of this study is to investigate/ explore/ examine…)

Objectives of research (up to 150 words)

(list up to three objectives of the proposed research; remember objectives should be SMART) What are you examining, wanting to understand or possibly identify. Could be a relationship between variables.

Rationale for study (300-400 words)

(Give evidence, based on academic literature, why the topic is interesting, relevant and worth exploring. You should include relevant in-text citations to reference any academic sources of literature used. This section is essentially a brief literature review, which will be expanded and developed for the extended research proposal) Identifying a key theoretical framework/model may prove beneficial.

Research approach or methodology proposed (200-300 words)

(Describe briefly the likely methodological approach you intend to use to deliver the aim and objectives of your research. You should also justify why the approach you have chosen is an appropriate way to tackle the topic you have proposed. You may also identify a suitable research strategy; will you collect quantitative or qualitative data, or employ a mixed methods study? How do you intend to collect the data? In-text citations to appropriate references should also be included)

Reference list

(A list of all references used should be included here, using the Harvard system of referencing)

What is a research proposal?

The following are examples of definitions of a research proposal taken from different universities. The premise is that most research proposals generally contain the same things, but the specific requirements will vary depending on institution and level of study. You should follow the specific guidelines laid out in the Assessment Guidelines for this module.

Research Methodology Assignment 1
Provisional Title of Research Proposal (35 words)
The vulnerability of Jobs in the time of Covid-19 in the US: The study investigates jobs at a higher risk as the demand for social distancing becomes the norm to control the spread of Covid-19.

Aim of research (22 words)
The study aims at highlighting industries hit hardest by the Covid-19 pandemic in the US when face-to-face interactions are an occupational hazard.

Objectives of research (60 words)
* To find out why not everyone will suffer to the same extent when the country is under lockdown.
* To explain why some people can find it easier to continue earning a living while others are facing the largest income losses.
* To find out how the distribution of working rom of spreads within states, cities, industries, and occupations in the country.

Rationale for study (344 words)
The Covid-19 pandemic poses a great threat to our current and future economy. In the wake of curfews and lockdowns, there is a need to devise policies that can minimize job losses. However, effective policies require a comprehensive understanding of the jobs at most risk due to the pandemic. The most important issue, in this case, is to understand how many jobs can be performed remotely or at home without any significant negative impact on the output (Mongey, Pilossoph, and Weinberg, 2020). The study will point out the differences that count between working and not working from home in the wake of the pandemic. It is the differences arising from either occupations, industries, or location of people’s jobs, which will determine whether they can work from home or not. Earning a living will be normal for those in essential service industries, whose jobs have reduced or no face-to-face interaction with others, and those who can work from home (Mongey and Weinberg, 2020). On the other hand, earning a living may become a nightmare for individuals whose sources of income do not count as essential or cannot be carried out from home.
For this study, the scope of working from home will be classified and merged with the rate of occupational employment across the country. At this point, it will be easier to filter out occupations at risk in the United States (Dingel and Neiman, 2020). The most important indicators for the study are those of jobs that can be done from home, those that involve a high rate of face-to-face interactions, and whether the occupation is considered essential or non-essential by the state authorities. More attention will be required on occupations that face both threats (Clark, 2020). A job will be considered at most risk if they require face-to-face interaction (cannot be executed from home) and is under the category of non-essential services. The disparity in the feasibility of earning by working from home and face-to-face interactions should be taken into account when addressing job losses and economic impact due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
