The recreation and tourism industry is among the major contributor to the world’s economy. Some nations derive most of their revenues from the tourism sector to run their economy. The recreation and tourism sector in Canada is a major contributor to the national economy. Tourism was the leading service export in Canada in 2019 resulting in 3% of accumulated exports. It generated revenue of $104 billion and created over 1.8 million employment opportunities in Canada (Gov, 2019). As expressed, the tourism sector is a crucial element in the Canadian economy. There are multiple social benefits associated with tourism and recreation in a nation. They include preservation of local culture and heritage, providing social services, strengthening the society, and commercializing certain cultures and art. On the flip side, tourism contributes to the protection and conservation of the environment. In various destinations, tourism aids in the preservation of high-quality water and the protection of nature as well as natural resources. Most tourism activities in Canada are centered in various locations such as Toronto, Niagara Falls, Churchill, Montreal, to mention a few. The large cities are well known for their distinct cultures, diversity, and multiple national parks and historic places.
Tourism sites and tourism personnel are affected by climate changes in multiple ways. Tourism destinations are highly sensitive and are affected by natural seasonality in demand. The interannual climate changes that result in unreasonable colds, heatwaves, and storms have a positive or negative effect on tourism.
