What Does Research Indicate About Psychopaths
Psychopathy is a term that bears diversities in its definition but most researchers have come to an agreement with a few definitions that have significant dimensions. It can be termed as a Deficient affective experience (DAE) that includes low guilt, remorse, a weak conscience, low empathy, callousness, shallow affect, as well as failure of accepting responsibility for actions (Broomhall, 2005: 371). Psychopathy is an irresponsible or impulsive behavioral style that seeks excitement, impulsiveness, boredom, absence of long-term goals, among others. The modern society is experiencing aggressive and violent behaviors which is said to be caused by various factors. Neuropsychological studies have also been conducted to find out the reasons for increased aggressiveness and violence within the society. The category includes the study of psychopaths and the aspects related to their behaviors. It is important to review on what the researchers found out concerning psychopaths.
Even though we have general forecasters of aggressive and violent behavior, there is no specific theory that explains causations among all situations. The behavior of human beings is clearly guided by interactions of various factors that bear great diversities. For instance, the behavior can be as a result of early behavioral experience, genetic predisposition, psychiatric disorder, acquired brain damage, situational occurrences, learned behavior patterns, among others (Broomhall, 2005: 371). In addition, violence may be contributed by factors and social context such as poverty, stress, illicit drugs and alcohol, physical and social abuse and emotional imbalances, among others.
