Journal Reflection
The journal I have selected focuses on elaborating various concepts related to sexism. According to Kirkman et al. (2020), discrimination based on gender is sexism. The article notes that sexism is likely to go unnoticed despite its frequent occurrence to some extent. However, another argument states that sexism has become an unfortunate reality for women in the U.S. because 99% report experiencing sexist events at some point in their lives. This shows that this issue of sexism and gender bias exists and it is advancing to different levels.
Given that the issue of sexism cannot be controlled, the only way to construe, retort, and handle these experiences is by detecting these instances of discrimination. However, perception of the perpetrator is deliberated to be one factor that affects the detection of sexism. The article gives an example of how black men are perceived to be more sexual than white men; this impacts the identification of sexism. It will be difficult to tell if a person discriminates against certain traits or admires them.
According to the article, several types of sexism are related to the modern day, expressed through hostility and benevolence. Hostile sexism is portrayed by plainly negative and biased convictions coordinated toward ladies. For example, the conviction that ladies are "prods" women's activists are nonsensical, and ladies need more power than men. Benevolent sexism, then again, mirrors an unavoidable response to women and is utilized to compensate ladies who are in cliché and orientation-limited roles (Kirkman et al., 2020). This more unpretentious type of sexism incorporates convictions that ladies need insurance from men, ladies' support, and men and women "complete" one another. While these perspectives might show up unrelated, they are decidedly associated. From a critical perspective, the article notes that these two types of sexism could be expressed differently: in gender role deviance, hostile sexism functions as a punishment, while in gender role conformity, benevolent sexism acts as a recompense.
To some extent, I think gender inequality could be linked to hostile and benevolent sexism. For instance, men's support of hostile sexism is related to an improved probability of participating in inappropriate behavior. People who underwrite hostile sexism are bound to give pessimistic assessments of ladies seen as dangers to the orientation norm. In r...
