Christianity and Sexuality
In the past, human sexuality was considered crucial for the survival of a clan or a tribe and less as a tool for pleasure. Research shows that each family member had a specific religious duty to play which was aimed at preparing them for their roles in procreation (Denova, 2021). The purpose of sexuality was for procreation as these would help pass the ancestors' traditions from one generation to another. Research shows that these duties were presented to the people as law codes and were validated by culture. These were the same rules that applied to the Christian life.
Sexuality is an important subject in modern Christianity. In the past, Christians avoided the topic of sexuality and would only talk about it in private. The fact that people were avoiding the topic made it challenging for Christians to address the results of negative sexual behaviors in society (Denova, 2021). As seen from the above discussion, sexuality was only considered for procreation in the past. As such, sex for pleasure was considered a forbidden sin. However, in modern sexuality, sex is never considered bad or sinful. Modern Christians claim that sex is one of the most precious gifts that God gave married couples (Denova, 2021). As such, the purpose of sex is not just sexual reproduction. Modern Christians argue that God designed sex to build an effective marriage relationship based on mutual enjoyment and delight.
Most Christians do what they feel works for them regarding their sex life. Christian couples are free to explore what makes them feel relaxed and satisfied with their sex life but are sometimes faced with the guilt of whether they are doing the right thing about their sex life. The Bible guides Christians to have certain laws that guide their sexual behaviors. An example of this law is one of the Ten Commandments, which forbids people from committing adultery (Heiliczer, 2019). The Bible forbids people from having sex with another person's wife or partner. The Bible also forbids Christians from having lustful thoughts. Christian law also forbids certain acts of sexuality, such as incest, bestiality, and homosexuality. All these laws are meant to ensure that people do not get into bad behaviors in the name of practicing sex.
There are famous cases in Christianity regards sexuality that is used to teach people about acceptable sexual practices.
