Mali's traditions provide some of the richest arts and cultural heritage in West Africa in the form of poetry, music, arts, and dance (Schulz, 2012). Arts and culture are incorporated into every daily life element, including religion, decoration, economic purposes, and craftsmen's works.
Malian writers Masa Makan Diabete and Maryse Conde made their careers by writing about their people and culture. Massa Makan was a descendant of a griot and is known for his novel, The Epic of Sundiata, which was based on people's contemporary and cultural lives in his hometown, Kita. Maryse Conde wrote about his Bambara people, where she descends. Their writings influenced the mindset of people and how they practice culture. Their writings were embraced both locally and internationally hence promoting culture.
Moussa Diabete is a Malian traditional textile artist. He makes traditional Bogolan and sews them into hunter's outfits. His designs have previously been chosen and won several awards.
