Efficacy of Wearing Face Masks

Research Paper Instructions:

I choose the covid 19 one, but if you find others easy you can choose another one but let me know which one.

The greater medical community and leading scientific institutions have provided sound evidence supporting the idea that wearing a mask or face covering can slow the spread of Covid-19—especially in situations where social distancing may be difficult to maintain. Despite the scientific evidence, some individuals refuse to wear a mask or face covering in such situations for various reasons. Setting aside the political implications of the debate over wearing masks and face coverings, construct an ethically-informed argument that demonstrates why one ought to wear a mask or face covering in situations that are difficult to maintain social distancing in. GUIDELINES FOR ESSAYS: Papers should be no less than 4 full-pages in length (excluding cover and works cited pages). In addition, they should be typed (using a standard 12 point font), include a name, title, and be doubled-spaced. Proper grammar and mechanics are extremely important, insofar as they add to the clarity of your argument(s)—however, essays that contain an excessive number of grammatical and semantic errors will receive a significant grade reduction. Avoid using online references like blogs, Wikipedia, and heavily-biased sources which generally are not appropriate for college-level work. Essays need to be ethically-informed, while making connections with the relevant course materials and concepts. Additionally, plagiarism will not be tolerated (per the course policy), so make certain that your essays conform to a standard like MLA, APA, or The Chicago Manual of Style. In fact, plagiarized papers may be submitted to M State’s Academic Integrity Tracker. That said, multiple drafts may be submitted to the Turnitin Folder (located under the Assessments/Assignments tabs within D2L) to avoid this issue by generating an Originality Report or by using the Match Overview tool. Problematic areas flagged in Match Overview and/or the Originality Report (if any) need to be revised, if not properly cited. Your last submission (via the time stamp) will be evaluated and graded. In a related way, final submissions that score 25% or more in Match Overview or the Originality Report will earn no higher than a grade of “C”. Submissions also need to be uploaded in a standardized and searchable file format (i.e., docx, doc, rtf, etc.,). Furthermore, essays that are not submitted to the Assignment\Turnitin Folder will not be graded. Lastly, since it takes time for Turnitin to process a submission, plan ahead and do not wait until the last minute to upload your essay. Final drafts of essays are due on or before 11:59 p.m. on April 30th in the Assignment\Turnitin Folder. 80 points.

EFFICACY OF WEARING MASKS
Introduction
The spread of COVID -19 has seen the placement of drastic measures to curb and reduce its prevalence. Preventive measures such as social distancing, washing of hands, and wearing face masks have been established to ensure that more people do not contract the disease. Among the many strategies to curb the spread of COVID, the most important is wearing face masks. However, there has been a lot of resistance from some quarters on the importance of wearing a face mask. This is because some people are openly defiant to the regulations. It is quite ethical to wear the face mask as per the health regulations, not only from an individual’s perspective but also from the larger picture.
These masks act as barriers between an infected persons’ respiratory droplets and the masses. It, therefore, ensures that the masses are protected against COVID-19. Therefore, putting in a mask ensures safety to an individual. It also reduces the rate at which the COVID-19 virus develops, and hence strategies to curb it might be put in place (Campbell, 2020). This practice of putting on masks will help reduce the rate of transmission of this disease.
According to Campbell (2020), it is important to put on face masks in all settings, especially the general public. These include gatherings, weddings, and funerals. Travelling exposes an individual to the risks of contracting the disease. With that, people are encouraged to wear their face masks when in public domains to ensure that they are safe from the spread of COVID-19. Therefore, appropriately wearing your mask in any transport system, such as in ships, buses, and planes, will ensure that control measures are enforced.
The mask, particularly the surgical mask used by medical practitioners, is layered and made specifically to help protect the user from contact with any droplets from an external source. These masks also create a barrier between the user and germs. It is an enforcement strategy to enable practitioners to continue fighting against this pandemic without much exposure to the virus. Also, those individuals in self-isolation get the opportunity to be cared for by relations such as close family members (Campbell, 2020). This helps them to feel loved and, therefore, may aid in their quick recoveries.
The Ethics of Wearing a Facemask
The ethical expectation is that one is supposed to be responsible for his or her conduct so that they do not expose others around them to risk due to their acts. In other words, one owes anyone around them the right to be safe from them. According to virtue ethics, one is supposed to be of good nature and personality, which forms the basis of one's character and thought process (Winter, 2012). Virtue ethics calls for one to behave appropriately and avoid causing harm to others around them. It constitutes a fundamental way in which to approach this issue of wearing a face mask. If an individual is indeed in the right way of thinking and conduct, then there is the responsibility to carry oneself to portray all the good aspects about them.
On the other hand, deontology also stipulates the...
