Abstract
The purpose of this research is to evaluate whether multiculturalism has led to national economic development in Canada. Cultural diversity plays an essential role in the establishment of accomplishment of national goals because it instills all the people with the same national spirit and individuals focus on the issues that are critical to the country. The study will involve 50 participants who are selected randomly from different parts of Canada and information will be acquired through the use of questionnaires and through interviews. Afterward, the results will be generalized and discussed.

Multiculturalism refers to a situation in which multiple groups of cultures exist within the same society. Ordinarily, multiculturalism exists when people accept and encourage many cultures to thrive in society and this usually results into great outcomes which include racial and ethnic harmony wish is as a result of people from different backgrounds getting along well tighter. It is also important to mention that when people live and accept other people’s culture, they are able to understand each other and this aids in discouraging hatred and violence. Multiculturalism facilitates economic development because people in a multicultural society live and work jointly and also struggle together for a better future.
Literature Review
Canada officially became a multicultural society in 1971 when the government began recognizing the value and dignity of Canadians of all races and ethnic groups, all languages, and religions. Canada’s history of colonization, immigration and settlement have significantly facilitated the establishment of a multicultural society which is made up of the indigenous people, British, French and other many racial and ethnic groups (Brosseau & Dewing, 2009). After adopting multiculturalism, Canada then ensured that it was incorporated in the Rights and Freedoms in 1982 and a Canadian Multiculturalism Act was then passed into legislation in 1988. Ideally, multiculturalism has literally become a vital ingredient of the contemporary Canadian identity (Stolle, Harell, Soroka & Behnke, 2016).
Multiculturalism promotes national integration, a situation where citizens of a given country see themselves as one and are bound by the shared historical experiences, values and the spirit of patriotism and unity. National integration becomes an essential component in the process of national development because citizens work with the same goals. Furthermore, multiculturalism promotes stability in a country which plays a major role in facilitating economic development (Doğan, 2017). Usually, tolerating other people’s privileges aids in reducing any possible conflicts that may arise and this ensures that no disruptions are observed in national development.
