Turner-Sack and colleagues used descriptive and correlational quasi-experimental designs. The descriptive design served the article’s primary goals. First, descriptive design enabled the researchers to examine the psychological functioning, post-traumatic growth (PTG), coping, and cancer-related traits of adolescent cancer survivors’ siblings and parents. Second, the authors used a correlational design to compare teenage cancer survivors, siblings, and parents on the same parameters and investigate psychological functioning, coping, and PTG in siblings and parents in relation to time, age, and cancer-related variables (Turner-Sack et al., 2016).
Regarding the study limitations, the researchers noted that the sample size was negligible, thus constraining the concealed significant effects and power that could have been revealed when using a bigger sample (Turner-Sack et al., 2016). The sample size incorporated mainly middle-class European/Canadian who consented to take part in the research.
