Write a 2- to 3-page paper that addresses the following:

  • Explain how the factor you selected might influence the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes in the patient from the case study you were assigned above.
  • Describe how changes in the processes might impact the patient's recommended drug therapy. Be specific and provide examples.
  • Explain how you might improve the patient's drug therapy plan and explain why you would make these recommended improvements.
  • Remember to use the rubric as a checklist.

Nursing: Pharmacotherapy for Cardiovascular Disorders in Delirium patient
The term pharmacotherapy defines how the body uses the drug after introduction. The processes entail absorption, distribution, excretion as well as metabolism. On the other hand, pharmacodynamics defines the effects that drugs have on the body, which entails side effects (Lauretani et al., 2020). These factors are influenced by the patient's medical history, other medications on use, and patient characteristics such as gender and age. From the given case study, the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of patient LM are influenced by the medical history alongside the patient's current list of drugs in use.
Impact on the patient's recommended drug therapy
The age factor in this case study influences the patient's pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (Khorana et al., 2019). In such elderly patients, being a geriatric patient, there is a reduction in the gastric PH, which eventually affects the solubility of some of the drugs prescribed. In this case, the reduction in solubility reduces the absorptive rate of certain drugs due to the slow intestinal blood flow due to advanced age. Additionally, the presence of diabetes interferes with the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetic process. The influence of diabetes on excretion, distribution, absorption also interferes with the process. Notably, the various changes in the amount of fatty body tissues absorption rate influence the absorption rate of different drugs (Lauretani et al., 2020).
Treatment for such patients with cardiovascular disease is challenging owing to the many comorbidities involved. Such a situation requires drugs that have the potential for different reactions, including side effects, with the reactions not always uniform depending on the patient. Since LM is under multiple medications and suffering from delirium, it is easy for the accumulation of toxins in the body (Murphy et al., 2018). The patient is under Benzodiazephines dosage that controls seductive hypnotics on alcohol, therefore protecting the kidney. LM is also under dosage of vitamins that help increase their appetite, preventing malnutrition. This helps to lower blood pressure and afterward any occurrence of stroke. However, the drug slows down the heartbeat, which may have an adverse effect on the patient. Therefore, there are chances of severe liver damage alongside other mild factors like nausea, vomiting, and headaches.
In administering treatment to the patient, there is a need to consider the aforementioned side effects of the different drugs. In this case, the drug's pharmacodynamics counters that of Digoxin 0.25 mg since it increases the patient's heartbeat while Metoprolol XL 25mg drug lowers the pulse...
