Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics Related to Anxiolytic Medications Anxiolytic medications refer to drugs that are used to prevent the occurrence of a generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). The medicines usually work rapidly, which can result in forming habits within the patient. Therefore, the drugs are only used for short-term interventions and are never recommended or prescribed to people diagnosed with substance abuse and addiction (Bourin, 2018). Pharmacokinetics refers to the body's action on the drug, whereas pharmacodynamics explains the intensity of the drug's impact in relation to its concentration within the body.
