Research Paper Instructions:

All students who participated in the forums thus far have suggested that they are interested in a wide variety of areas that may provide the basis of their future research projects or ideas for change.
The text proposes ways to conduct literature reviews that will help you think about how to design a study to search your topic. Those new to doing research often struggle to get started on this road even when they have an idea for their topic. Some of those struggles arise from difficulty identifying the best "key words" and using these terms appropriately to get solid evidence.
To assist students in applying material from this chapter to their own ideas, please use the format below and follow this outline or steps to finding evidence-based research in your interest area or topic:
Select 2 terms that generally apply to your area of research interest. An example of this would be "diabetes and weight" OR "exercise and older adults.”
browser to CINAHL as this is the largest repository of nursing literature.
Type the first term into the keyword browser and search it. Record the number of hits in the table.
Type the second term into the browser and search it. Record the number of hits.
Next, type both of the terms in as a combination. Record the number of hits.
Most of you will have a large number of "hits" to these initial queries.
Next, navigate to the "limits" tab; select your "combination" search topic.
Next, please further limit your combination topic search using additional limits of one of these key words: "quantitative OR tool OR measurement". Record the number of hits using this strategy.
Next, calculate the percentage of "useful hits" - this is the number of hits for your topic when you have applied all the limits divided by the original number of hits you got when you first combined the 2 terms.
Based on your understanding of the research process so far, what do you think this final number means related to your research topic of interest? Review some of the abstracts and evaluate whether the search strategies were successful. Pick your passion in nursing for this assignment, it will make it easier to read and search for articles.

make sure the following is included
Think long term (so you don’t have to do this all over with a new topic for your project!) Select a topic you are passionate about in nursing, something you want to change, or even something you want to have a better understanding of. This will set you on the right path, even if the question you end up with is not the one you begin with. Think of this as a fact-finding mission. You will be able to use this topic for the rest of the course.
Select your keywords. Example: topic – are sheepdogs the best herding dog? Keywords might be: dog, herding, sheepdog, herding dogs. It may be helpful for you to group your keywords by similarity.
Access the library site and search CINAHL. Type your first keyword into the search bar and record the number of results (do this for all for your keywords – make the grid as big as you need to). Don’t worry if the number of results you get is unmanageable! This is why we have Boolean operators.
Use Boolean Operators. Sometimes, we get so many extraneous results with keywords that we cannot manage to sort through them all, so we utilize operators like AND/OR/NOT. AND will get you less results as it combines terms. OR will get you all of the results that have either of the terms somewhere within the title/article. NOT will eliminate results that have the term you wish to avoid. Create combinations with your terms and see what kinds of results you get and how it changes from your original term. Based on your understanding of the research process so far, what do you think this final number means related to your research topic of interest?
Once you have completed your search, select THREE of the articles most closely related to your topic and write a detailed summary (40 points)
Craft a conclusion (10 points)
Your entire paper (with exception of chart) is in APA format with your articles correctly referenced (10 points)

My Topic: Mental health and depression
Number of hits:40
Two research terms selected:
1. Mental Health
2. Depression
Term used: Quantitative
Hits when the topic is limited to the above term: 22
The percentage of useful hits is 22/40 = 55%. This suggests that the search strategies were successful. The articles retrieved when the terms were limited to quantitative suggest that the research was focused on studies that had used quantitative measures, such as surveys or questionnaires, to measure outcomes related to mental health and depression. This is a useful strategy for narrowing down the search and finding evidence-based studies likely to provide insights into the topic of interest. By using terms such as "quantitative" and "survey," it is possible to limit the search to studies that have used reliable methods for collecting data and measuring outcomes. This can provide researchers with a better understanding of the research question so that they can design rigorous studies that can answer their research question.
1 "The Variability of Nursing Attitudes Toward Mental Illness: An Integrative Review" by de Jacq, K., Norful, A. A., & Larson, E. (2016)
* Study Type: Integrative review
* Summary:
The study by de Jacq, Norful, and Larson aimed to examine the attitude of nurses toward mental illness. As mental illness grows as a public health concern, it is critical to understand healthcare professionals' perspectives towards it. The authors reviewed existing research to understand nurses' views on mental illness. The results indicated that attitudes towards mental illness were highly diverse, with some nurses having positive thoughts. In contrast, others held negative attitudes, such as stigma, lack of understanding, and limited knowledge about the condition.
This finding is concerning because negative attitudes can result in inadequate care for mental illness patients. The authors concluded that nurses need increased education and training to improve their attitudes and understanding of mental illness. By enhancing their knowledge and experience in mental health, they can provide better care and reduce the stigma linked to mental illness. This, in turn, could lead to improved health outcomes for patients suffering from the condition and an uplifting mental health services perception in the community.
1 "Factors Associated with Mental Health Outcomes Among Health Care Workers Exposed to Coronavirus Disease 2019" by Lai, J., Ma, S., Wang, Y., Cai, Z., Hu, J., Wei, N., ... & Hu, S. (2020)
* Study Type: Cross-sectional study
* Summary:
The study used a cross-sectional design, which allowed the authors to collect data from many healthcare workers at a specific time. The study showed that exposure to the virus, long working hours, and poor social support were associated with increased anxiety and depression among healthcare workers. This is concerning as healthcare practitioners are the most vulnerable individuals due to their proximity to patients, and their mental health is critical for quality care....
