Leadership plays a vital role in the success of any organization, and several leadership theories are available to guide and enhance leadership practices. However, the practical implementation of these theories is not always evident. It has been demonstrated through research that the impact of leadership behaviors such as emotional intelligence and transformational leadership cannot be overstated, as they are critical to the success of both organizations and work environments This discussion assesses formal leadership theories, their impact on the work environment, and the effectiveness of leadership behaviors identified in academic literature.
The scholarly resources analyzed have identified two crucial factors in creating a healthy work environment, transformational leadership, and emotional intelligence. Transformational leadership focuses on developing the potential of followers by aligning their individual goals with those of the organization. According to Broome & Marshall (2021), it involves empowering and inspiring followers to exceed personal expectations and contribute to the organization's success. Additionally, emotional intelligence has been identified as an essential trait of effective leaders. Leaders who can regulate their emotions, recognize the emotions of their team members, and respond appropriately create a positive work environment (Duggan et al., 2015).
