Incorporating Theory
The problem in this research is basically hypertension in adults and the proposed solution is doing exercises to reduce high blood pressure. The theory that can be used to support my proposed solution is identified in this paper. The theory is described along with my rationale for selecting the theory. Moreover, this paper also provides a discussion of how the theory works to support my proposed solution. How I will incorporate the theory into my project is also discussed in this paper.
The theory that can be utilized in supporting my proposed solution is Orem’s Self-Care Deficit Theory. This theory was formulated by Dorothea Orem because of her working towards her objective of enhancing the quality of nursing in general hospitals within her state. The assumptions of this nursing theory are as follows: (i) people are distinctive and discrete individuals; (ii) people need to be self-dependent, and they should be accountable for their care, as well as their family who require care (Bond et al., 2013). (iii) An individual’s awareness and familiarity of the possible health problems is required to promote self-care behaviors. (iv) Nursing is a type of action, and it is basically an interaction between at least 2 persons. (v) Dependent care and self-care are behaviors that are learned in a social and cultural setting. (vi) Effectively achieving development and universal self-care basics is a vital constituent of primary care prevention and infirmity (Nursing Theory, 2013).
It is of note that Orem’s theory comprises 3 components which are related: theory of nursing system; theory of self-care deficit; and theory of self-care.
