The Impact of the 2010 IOM Report on Nursing
The nursing profession makes up a large segment of the healthcare workforce among several countries. Nurses are responsible for taking good care of patients, and for this reason, their role in realizing the targets set in the Affordable Care Act of 2010 is vital. Nonetheless, there are several hindrances that prevent nurses from adopting a health care system that is quickly changing. Hence, the establishment of the 2010 report by the Institute of Medicine aimed at exploring the nursing profession and coming up with ways in which nurses can contribute to building a health care system that is more affordable, easily accessible, of good quality and safe for patients (Institute of Medicine, 2011). However, the initiative will greatly affect the number of professionals and students admitted to nursing institutions since more nurses will be enrolled to further their studies. Nonetheless, the great expectations by the IOM will lead to improved nursing education since the learning system will also adapt to the changes in the healthcare system.
The Impact of IOM Report on Nursing Practice
The report also states that nurses face certain challenges when trying to cope with the healthcare setting and a system that is rapidly changing because of a number of hindrances. Nurses are required to fully practice their profession as they have learned in their training and education (Garner, 2010). The report will impact the nursing professionals in that; nurses will be ...
