As a leader, or considering the role of a leader, assess your organization and evaluate how well it is responding to the forces, and identify where there is a need for change. Identify the external and internal forces that drive organizational change in your field or industry. Explain the origin or reason for these internal or external driving forces. Explain how these forces directly affect the viability of your organization.

Description of Organization
My organization is called Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, and it is located in Queens, New York. The hospital has grown from its humble beginnings in 1891 to being recognized as one of the best in the U.S. Jamaica Hospital Medical Center continues to serve the community around it, offering a wide range of services, including inpatient services, ambulatory services, palliative care, pediatric services, psychiatric services, and general medical services. The hospital serves the Queens area as well as the area in Eastern Brooklyn and caters to the needs of the diverse population within its region of influence.
As an organization that is committed to delivering the best quality of care to its patients, the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center is guided by its mission that states, “To serve our patients and the community in a way that is second to none” (Jamaica Hospital, 2021). From the above mission statement, it is clear that the hospital seeks to deliver the best. Furthermore, the hospital is guided by its vision with reads, “To be the premier integrated healthcare delivery system by providing the highest quality, most cost-effective service, which is accessible and sensitive to all.” The vision statement above aptly captures the hospital’s quest to eliminate healthcare disparity in its area of influence. In a progress report published from a study done between 2016 and 2018, JHMC identified accessibility to care as one of the major concerns for the residents in Queens. As per the report, “12.9% of East New York residents, 6.6% of Jamaica residents, and 18.6% of Southwest Queens residents” reported not receiving care when they most needed it (JHMC, 2016). Through its mission and vision, the hospital is dedicated to making sure that it eliminates such instances by giving everyone a chance to receive care.
The hospital’s stakeholders include the residents who are in need of the services being offered, the New York State Department of Health, the staff members (nurses, physicians, and other medical and non-medical professionals), and the MediSys Health Network (JHMC is a subsidiary).
External and Internal Drivers of Organizational Change
Every organization experiences different forces that drive change. These forces can either be internal or external to an organization. JHMC experiences some forces that continue to impact its delivery of care. Some of the examples of external forces that drive organizational change in the healthcare sector include healthcare reforms, technological development, pandemics or disease outbreaks, healthcare consumerism, and demographics or changes in population characteristics. All these forces are outside the influence and control of JHMC and will thus impact or lead to organizational change. Regarding internal factors, JHMC will have control over all of these factors and how they are influencing change in the organization.
