Both the DNP and the Ph.D. are considered the highest forms of education available for nurses, and both prepare students to generate new knowledge. To reach the pinnacle of nursing education, doctoral students must have gone through other nursing programs accredited by AACN. All institutions offering DNP and Ph.D. courses for nurses require applicants to have earned a baccalaureate and masters in his/her practice area. However, in the last two decades, the requirements for a doctoral course in nursing were changed to increase the cadre of nurse scientists and advanced practice nurses needed to address the pressing health problems in society and to expand the number of nurses needed in the future, given the rise inpatient population expected as a result of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) CITATION Ket15 \l 1033 (Ketefian & Redman, 2015).
Difference of Doctoral Programs from Any Other Learning Experience
Doctoral learning is designed to generate new knowledge through a scientific process that requires the student to read and research intensively to identify gaps in knowledge. Guided reading and research would always result in doctoral students identifying the same gaps in knowledge. One of the main differences between doctoral learning and any other learning is that the objective is to create new knowledge for doctoral learning. On the other hand, other learning experiences differ in that their programs are mainly designed to consume existing knowledge for certification.
How the Webinar Can Help to Prepare Me for the Program
The webinar gives insightful information on what to expect for the course. It gives an overview of the entire course and explains the expectations of the university. Some of the presenters' key things are practice doctorate, time commitment, the curriculum, project timeline, practice immersion hours, mentorship, learning systems, i.e., loud cloud, Typhon and DC network, and the DPI project. The presenters also discussed how to use the three systems required for the project. The video will be a reference point on using the Typhon, which is critical for my learning. Thirdly, the presenters have discussed the expected time to complete the program, and that information has helped me plan on how to balance my work and social life to achieve it.
