Introduction Smartphones have become a key part of almost everyone’s life because of their utility, ease of use, portability, and many features. These devices have changed human interaction and have been engineered to access, store, send and share information easily and conveniently. They have become indispensable tools of work for nurses. Nurses have come to find them as an important and useful resource for various tasks, such as calculating drug dosage and looking up more information on drugs before administering them to patients (Gutiérrez, et al., 2021). Nurses also use smartphones to calendarize events and meetings, communicate with colleagues, share information, and input information into electronic health databases. In other cases, nurses look up new evidence-based interventions to guide their decisions on providing care. On the other hand, nurses have been using these devices for non-clinical purposes such as entertainment and unnecessarily communicating with friends rather than focusing on providing care. This leads to a diminished capacity to provide quality care to the patients, and they may not be able to accurately assess when using these devices at work (McBride, LeVasseur, & Li, 2015). Literature Review Nurses can use smartphone technology to connect with other medical professionals to collaborate to provide care. Text messages, emails or calls during work can help channel accurate information to various individuals easily and at the right time (Jong, Donelle, & Kerr, 2020). Secondly, smartphones can allow nurses to access information on dosage, medication, procedures, etc. Smartphones can be equipped with decision support apps to help nurses deliver evidence-based care using the latest findings on any issue.
