Introduction
The hospital administrator I interviewed is called Dr. Tim Hernandez who works in one of the for-profit medical institutions. I personally interviewed Tom to determine his philosophical worldview of ethical Dilemma's in the health sector. Tom eludes that within the health sector, ethical dilemmas arise in instances where the clients and their health providers have varied understandings on what is right and wrong (De Casterlé, Izumi, Godfrey, & Denhaerynck, 2008). He mentions that as an administrator, they in many times deal with ethical dilemmas within their medical facility, a factor that calls for the examination of the problems that arise. Tom also mentioned that any decision arrived at in solving the ethical issues should be solemnly based on ethical principles that protect the best interests of the health workers and the patients.
Analysis of an Ethical Dilemma
During the interview, I asked Tom of an instance where they had experienced an ethical dilemma and how they went about solving the issue. Tom takes time and remembers of a woman whom he declines to mention her name. He alludes that the 79-year-old woman was brought to the Emergency Department for suffering a respiratory distress. The doctor noted that the patient had minimal responsiveness to verbal stimuli with the chest radiography revealing a right lower lobe consolidation (De Casterlé, et.al). It was therefore discovered that the patient suffered a bowel cancer, born and brain metasets including the lungs.
The doctor, however, had a challenge admitting the critically ill patient to the ICU since it was his consultant's decision, a factor that forced them to wait. After the transfer to the ICU, the woman condition worsened a factor that required a talk with the family on what should be done in the event of a cardiac arrest. There was a need of involving the relatives the patient's relatives about the end-of-life issues (Falcó-Pegueroles, Lluch-Canut, Roldan-Merino, Goberna-Tricas, & Guàrdia-Olmos, 2015). The patient's son was informed about the condition and revealed that her mother never wanted a heroic measure in an event of cardiac arrest, a factor that resulted in the decision to initiate a not for resuscitation order (NFR). The aim of this order was to withhold life-saving measures in an event when the cardiac functions stop. However, the patient's daughter mentioned that she wanted everything done to her mother, a factor that resulted in an ethical dilemma.
I then asked Tom of his philosophy of an ethical dilemma in such a scenario and h responded by saying that in analyzing a clinical ethical dilemma, it is essential to characterize the situation in determining the underlying ethical pr...
