Disability Insurance for Employees
Accidents or injuries in the workplace are inevitable. For this reason, employers are expected to provide assistance to their workers who get injured while at work. Many large and medium-sized companies have implemented disability insurance programs for their employees so that such individuals can continue getting income if they get injured and cannot work for a specific period. In particular, employees devote themselves to give the best for their firms when they know that their needs are fulfilled. A proper benefit plan for workers is something that can reduce turnover and get employees motivated to handle their roles well. Disability insurance is an income protection program that enables workers to get paid by their employers when they get injured in the workplace.
Work-related injuries are usually caused by overexertion, contact with equipment, slips, and falls. Some of the activities that might lead to injuries include heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, throwing, and holding (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2020). In some cases, employees slip and fall and they end up injuring themselves. Workers also get injured by the machinery they are working with, which can occur due to being pinched, squeezed, and crushed by collapsing equipment. Accidents or injuries that occur in the workplace leave some employees disabled for the rest of their lives. In other words, it means that such workers can no longer perform their duties, which makes them dependent on their family members. Since workplace accidents or injuries are unpredictable, the best ways for companies to protect their workers are by implementing proper safety measures and disability insurance programs.
Employee benefit plans are crucial since they promote worker retention, increase levels of motivation, lead to job satisfaction, and reduce employee turnover. One of the most common benefits that companies provide for their workers is health insurance. Disability insurance is another critical practice that is being adopted by many employers. Firms have different disability insurance programs depending on their sizes and the type of industry where they operate (Gelber, Moore, & Strand, 2017). Some of the workplace environments are risky and hazardous to work in, which is the reason why companies should provide disability insurance to employees in such fields. For example, it is likely that workers using heavy machinery will get injured while operating them if they make a slight mistake. As such, if such employees become disabled while in the line of duty, firms should not just take them to the hospital, pay their bills, and leave them to suffer. Instead, employers should provide appropriate assistance through disability insurance programs to ensure that such individuals get money to support themselves and their families for a specific period.
