Analyze and evaluate how your thinking was challenged in this course as related to translation science models and theories and searching the literature for current research about the National Practice Problems (Mental Illness: Anxiety).
One way that I have been challenged is by turning my focus away from the basic goal of research. The basic goal of research is to increase knowledge or advance the literature on a particular topic or study area. So, what research does is to enhance what has already been revealed. This means one simply looks at what exists and finds loopholes or spaces that can lead to further knowledge. While following this model, the goal is to increase the amount of knowledge that exists. However, no one considers how this knowledge can be implemented to help improve patient outcomes and population health. In this course, my thinking was challenged not to settle for simply increasing the amount of knowledge available on a particular subject. There is a need to consider how this knowledge can be turned into something tangible and beneficial to patients. Therefore, as I delve into research, I must make sure that I am considering the applicability of the knowledge that I am developing.
Aside from developing knowledge that can be implemented, there is also the question of which implementation strategies fit the developed knowledge. According to Titler (2018), there is a need to consider the implementation strategies that fit the knowledge created. Titler further notes that going this extra mile helps to make it clear how the different strategies work, for whom they can work, and in which settings these strategies work. My thinking was challenged here because I have been forced to consider an aspect of research that is often overlooked. Usually, research ends after knowledge has been dispensed. However, this course is challenging me to consider how this knowledge should be implemented in the clinical practice and some of the implementation strategies that are fit for apt implementation.
