In the "Benin Bronze" case study, thousands of bronze sculptures were stolen by British forces during the bloody invasion of Benin City in 1897, and within a short time, the bronzes were dispersed among museums all over the globe. The movement to repatriate the colonial-era bronze artifacts to their original country, the ancient Benin kingdom, now known as Southern Nigeria, has gained momentum in recent years.
