In the "Benin Bronze" case study, thousands of bronze sculptures were stolen by British forces during the bloody invasion of Benin City in 1897, and within a short time, the bronzes were dispersed among museums all over the globe. The movement to repatriate the colonial-era bronze artifacts to their original country, the ancient Benin kingdom, now known as Southern Nigeria, has gained momentum in recent years. Since European museums have been at the forefront of suggesting such conversations, returning the artifacts to their continent has been a primary priority.
