Introduction
A small percentage of preschoolers have speech-language difficulties. These limitations mostly affect communication. Language disorders impede spoken, signed, or written language, while speech problems affect speech sounds, fluency, and voice. These diseases can hurt a child's academic and social skills, lowering confidence, self-esteem, and socializing. Most speech-language problems have unknown causes, but several are suspected. Anatomical, cognitive, learning, genetic, hearing, neurologic, and physiologic anomalies are examples. Speech and language difficulties can be congenital or acquired via sickness, injury, or the environment. These impairments commonly coexist with learning problems and can affect a child's development. Childhood speech and language impairments can have lasting impacts (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2022).
Background
The CDC emphasizes that children are naturally language learners. Most learn their first language at home. Most five-year-olds should speak proficiently. Some children may have trouble understanding others, talking, and formulating words. These difficulties can cause frustration and delayed language development than expected for their age.
