Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. is a San Diego’s musician who is commonly known as Lil Wayne. He is a Grammy Award- winning Rapper and is famous for his hit albums, singles and mix-tapes, including "Lollipop" and "A Milli". He is also known by several Nicknames such as Bird man Jr., Best Rapper Alive, Rapper Eater, Gangsta D, Nino Brown, Mr. Carter, President Carter, Shrimp Daddy, Tunechi Lionchess, Tune, Wizzle and Weezy F Baby. His fans have labeled him as Young Money Ent/Cash Money Records/Universal Motown. He is a rapper from New Orleans Louisiana. He was born on 27th September of 1982 and was brought up in Hollygrove which is one of the poorest neighborhoods of New Orleans (Mousdell 1).
He started creating music way back since the time he was a child and started rapping when he was only eight years old. Later he came across Slim Williams and Bryan who are the founders of Cash Money Records. His skills impressed them to the point that they gave him one of their business cards. As a result of his ambition, Lil Wayne gave them continuous calls up to the time they admitted him under their wings and allowed him to use the label’s office.
Initially he was part of the hip-hop group the Hot Boys, a group in which he released three albums with. As part of the Hot Boys, Lil Wayne experienced his first success. In the company of Turk and B.G. Juvenile they released their debut album; "Get it How U Live" in 1997 and this album sold over 400,000 copies. Their next album; "Guerilla Warfare" in 1999 had even a better performance where it sold more than one million copies. By the time Lil Wayne was 16 years of age, he was on his was considered as being on his path to music stardom.
After the band split up, Lil Wayne released his own solo albums; "The Block is Hot" on Cash Money Records which was true stories (in 1999). This solo album went platinum and from that time Lil Wayne has not gown silent but has aimed higher and higher in his performances. His next two albums released in 2000 (Lights Out) and 2002 (500 Degreez) sold modestly when compared to his previous ones. He took a different approach where he stopped creating traditional style album and instead worked on mix-tapes where he released his first collection (Da Drought) in 2003. Lil Wayne’s Mix-tape tracks feature beats obtained from other artists as well as his own lyrics (Mousdell 1).
Lil Wayne released the album "Tha Carter" which became very popular giving him the reputation as the rap’s leading performer in 2004. The single "Go D.J." did so well on hip-hop, rap and pop charts. Soon after this success, Wayne released the Carter in the month of December 2005. He later released several popular mix-tape recordings such as the solemnly adored Dedication, Vol. 2 which he produced with DJ Drama in 2006. In the same year, he teamed up with Bryan William (Cash Money mentor) who is also known as "Birdman" and "Baby" to produce the album named "like father, Like Son" which generated the hit "Stuntin Like My Daddy" (Mousdell 1).
