Borders are used worldwide to limit the free movement of people, especially when there is an uncertain situation or conflicts between two or more countries. However, for volunteers and social welfare organizations, there should be no borders at all as their job is to serve the humanity and provide free medical assistance to those who are in need. Volunteers move from one city to another with an aim to help the poor and needy, as well as those who have suffered from disasters (Kottler, Carlson and Englar-Carlson, 2013).
Some of the most prominent volunteer groups are Transparent Hands Foundation, Samaritan’s Purse, MAP International, United States Fund for UNICEF, Feed the Children, United Way and World Vision. In addition, Volunteers Without Borders is a unique, well-versed social welfare organization that promises no volunteer program fees in over sixteen countries across Africa and Asia. Any individual who aims to serve human beings can be a part of this organization and be assured of a safe, friendly and competitive environment (Vachon and Bugingo François, 2008).
This organization has successfully run different healthcare and education programs in Peru, Costa Rica, Nepal, Italy, South Africa and Bali. They have supported more than 80,000 volunteers across the world. Should there be any barriers for volunteers? Unfortunately, some countries do not allow free movement of volunteers considering them a threat to peace and harmony. Sometimes, they even claim that volunteers create a mess for the entire political system rather than serving the needy and sick. African countries like Swaziland, Mozambique, and South Africa are good examples of that (Kottler, Carlson and Englar-Carlson, 2013).
