In view of the above, I need to prepare this assignment for the university and Interprofessional Practice Lecture. Here is my experience in our class;
We met at the library as a group of five people, and I was there as the teenager's mother on the team that gathered for a 19-year-old young boy with a habit of alcoholism. The assembled team also included a general practitioner, a social worker, a nurse, and a mental health worker. We were unable to proceed well as a group in accordance with the Tuckman Model, which includes the stages of forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning. Introduction
Inter-professional practice is essential to delivering successful and integrated care in contemporary health and social care/public health settings. This review examines the advantages and disadvantages of inter-professional practise, including related theory, policy, ethical issues, organisational frameworks, and partnership work (McWilliams, 2020). It also examines the effects of policies, professional codes, and methods on inter-professional practise.
Discussion
Part A
Five individuals were involved in the group’s activities: the mother of the adolescent, who was also a participant in the group; a general practitioner; a social worker; a nurse; and a mental health worker. The conference progressed through the stages expectedly described in the Tuckman Model, but while we were in the performing stage, we experienced some difficulties.
Interpersonal Practice Theme
Providing patients with holistic and integrative care is the primary objective of inter-professional practise, which necessitates the cooperation and effective communication of professionals from various professions to be successful (Rasheed et al., 2018). A contemporary problem that needed to be solved was how to help and assist a young man struggling with alcoholism most effectively. This was an important topic since it required the skills and knowledge of many professionals, each offering their unique perspectives to establish an all-encompassing care plan. This topic also needed a lot of time and effort.
Relevance with Policies
The conversation discussed and debated how various legislation, professional codes, and organisational structures affected inter-professional practise (Kirkpatrick et al., 2019). Individuals can collaborate more effectively when guided by organisational frameworks that delineate the parameters of teamwork.
Challenges in Group
When we moved on to the performing stage, we ran into some problems, despite having no issues getting through the forming and storming stages. It was challenging for us to merge the many points of view into a coherent plan of action (Kirkpatrick et al., 2019). The group’s progression was hampered due to challenges such as impediments to communication, competing priorities, and power dynamics that developed inside the group.
Personal and Professional Self-Awareness
Inter-professional group meetings boosted my personal and professional self-awareness. I also know the challenges of treating his drinking. It highlighted the need to consider healthcare specialists’ knowledge and experience when creating a treatment plan and actively listen to their opinions (Schroeder et al., 2019). This event made me recognise how crucial it is to participate in continual professional development to expand my knowledge and skills, which will help me navigate complex healthcare scenarios.
