Proposed Title of Research Project: Exploring Strategies on how Pakistani Female Girls/Women in England should be empowered to Pursue Higher Education
Purpose of Research: The purpose of this study is to explore strategies on how to empower women/female of Pakistani origin within England to pursue higher education. Secondly, the purpose seeks to explore the barriers that Pakistani women face in their attempt to pursue higher education in England. Finally, the purpose seeks to outline the resources ad stakeholder inputs that will be vital in improving the educational attainment gap among Pakistani women in England. This purpose is based on the understanding that education still plays a key role in giving individuals an opportunity to elevate their social and economic wellbeing. Pakistani women who immigrate into England are susceptible to the challenges that come with lack of quality education (Ali & Hussain, 2019). As such, the research serves as a platform to give such women an opportunity to advance their well-being and become effective members of England community.
Background/ context of the research/ main research questions
It is notable that significant steps have been put to encourage Pakistani women into pursuing higher education globally. In 2017/2018, there were 40,000 Pakistani students enrolled in UK universities. Approximately, 13% of the students were female (Sardar & Hussain, 2020). From 2017-2021, the number of Pakistani students in UK universities increased to mark 10% of all the international post-graduate students. Amidst the growth in the number of Pakistani women in education indicated above, there are still discrepancies between the male and female numbers (Haq & Anwar, 2020). More Pakistani males are pursuing higher education in England if compared to their female counterparts. Efforts should be put to help with outlining the causes of the discrepancies and the efforts that could be put for better outcomes (Ahmed & Ali, 2021). England must change its strategies aimed at encouraging more Pakistani women toward education. That is because its performance is low compared to other countries like Germany where 325 of Pakistani college students are women or 44.84% in the US. Even in Pakistan, with a lower gender attainment gap and literacy index has a higher rate (27%) of women in colleges compared to England (Sardar & Hussain, 2020).
Based on the above background, this research intends to pursue the following questions:
1 What are some of the challenges that Pakistani women face when it comes to pursuing higher education in England?
2 Which strategies are/should be implemented to encourage more Pakistani women to pursue higher education?
3 Which resources will be needed to address the challenge of low Pakistani women registration in England universities?
4 Who are some of the stakeholders and which roles will the play in changing the prevalent trends on low registration indexes among Pakistani women in England universities?
