How to Write a Compare/Contrast Essay Compare and contrast essays are the other big essay types in academic writing. These essays will follow a specific question and are fairly easy to complete. There are several ways to write this type of essay. The most important thing to remember is structure. Many wonderful essays fall victim to the woes of bad structure, making any ingenuity to fall by the wayside. Go over the rules on how to write a general essay, and then structure your compare/contrast essay in one of the following two formats: 1. Introduction Your introduction — like the five-paragraph-essay, should open generally (with a quotation, anecdote, generalization), and lead into the thesis statement. 2. Topic 1 This next portion of your essay (which may consist of one paragraph or several) should cover only the first topic of the comparison and contrast. Compare/Contrast essays take two topics and illustrate how they are similar and dissimilar. Do not mention topic 2 in this first portion. 3. Topic 2 This next portion of your essay (which may also consist of one or more paragraphs) should cover the second of the two topics. Do not discuss Topic 1 in this section. Since you have already gone into great detail about it, you may allude to Topic 1 briefly; however, do not analyze Topic 1 in this section. This portion of the paper is to discuss Topic 2 in great detail. 4. Topics 1 and 2 Together Now that you have analyzed both Topic 1 and Topic 2 independently, now it is time to analyze them together. This section may also be one or several paragraphs. 5. Conclusion The conclusion — like the introduction — should be a generalization of the thesis. This paragraph should express your certainty and absolute knowledge on the subject matter. Comparison between Macintosh and PC computers is normally an individual preference. In the real sense, both the computers contain advantages and disadvantages. Furthermore, some individuals prefer one of these two types of computers better than the other. For example, some of the Macintosh computer advantages show immediately the computer is turned on. Other advantages are hidden in the operation system. Therefore, looking at the various aspects of these two computer models, various similarities and differences occur. This paper discusses the differences and similarities between Macintosh computers and PC computers.
Comparing between Macintosh and PC computers helps us to identify the differences and similarities between the two. Normally, Macintosh computers are more user friendly and have many features compared to PC computers. However, they are very expensive. Hence, people ought to decide on the benefits of this type of computer to have a justification for its cost. This type of computer grants the user the ability to run legally two operating systems, the OSX and Windows. Additionally, they can function effectively alongside other components of Apple like iPod, iPod Touch, iPod Classic, iPod Shuffle and many others. This type of computer is also very easy to use. They are less susceptible to effects of computer viruses. Furthermore, when an individual purchases a Macintosh computer, he/she automatically qualifies for support from the various Apple stores. Since Macintosh is manufactured by the Apple Company, quality is always guaranteed. Also, Macintosh computers are normally well designed. They are appealing visually and also trandset. After manufacture, Macintosh computers come accompanied with good software. This software is normally out of the box. This is called iLife. This out of box access ensures access to the store for iTunes. This applies in case the individual is an iPhone or an iPod user. There are only six types of Macintosh computers. These include MacBook, MacBook Air, MacMini, Mac Pro, MacBook Pro and Mac iMac (Strong, 2008).
The operating system of Macintosh computers is the Mac OS. This system is clean, easy to use and simple. Additionally, the operating system is very stable.
