Assignment: Describe Transformational Learning. Write about each phase of Transformational Learning. Explain how will you apply the content from this week and transformation learning to your current or future position.
(Background for assignment: I work full-time at Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC) on JEB Little Creek-Fort Story Base in Virginia Beach, Virginia. My job is a Work and Family Life Educator, specializing in Life Skills Education such as what a Family Life Educator does in the civilian sector. I teach mainly classes relating to parenting, relationships/couples, stress management, suicide prevention & awareness, and family violence prevention. My overall goal would be to enter into the Exceptional Family Member Program to help educate and assist other families who have children with special needs, medical diagnoses, IEPs, and 504s. I am pursuing my BA in sociology with a concentration in education to pursue a higher position within my career at Fleet and Family Support Center.)

Description of Transformational Learning
Transformational learning emphasizes the ability of individuals to make meaning of their experiences. McComish and Parsons (2013) reveal that it is a process through which individuals understand particular aspects of their life, transforming them into better persons. This perspective arises from Mezirow’s transformational learning model, which indicates that people can change their expectations and assumptions through conversations and critical reflections with other stakeholders, including workplace colleagues. Such an aspect demonstrates that this idea does not approach learning from an additive point, which focuses on increasing one’s knowledge. Instead, it is a more change-oriented method for improving people’s awareness of their personalities and those of others in diverse contexts.
Phases of Transformational Learning and Application

Transformation learning Process (Hasse, 2022)
Phase 1: Disorienting Dilemma
In the first phase, an individual encounters a scenario that challenges existing perspectives about expectations and beliefs. Hasse (2022) considers this experience a jolting one that pushes individuals to deal with the unknown. As a work and family life educator seeking to venture into the exceptional family member program, understanding the dynamics of such an environment and working approaches is critical. As a result, challenging oneself to deal with this dilemma requires comparing what I already know and the new learnings.
Phase 2: Self-Examination
This phase represents the phase where one reflects on past knowledge and its applicability in the current and future position. The step supports the concept of introspection and belief questioning, leading to the understanding of the capacity to address the dilemma.
Phase 3: Assessment of Assumptions
McComish and Parsons (2013) illustrate that this step enables one to compare and validate existing knowledge. As an expert, it becomes easy to appreciate emerging changes, recognize questionable beliefs, and determine which aspects require re-looking or abandoning for new perspectives.
Phase 4: Recognition of Shared Process
