Ever since its adoption in the 80s, the in-garrison organizational framework has received much negative criticism in today’s fast-paced working environment because of being unsuitable and inflexible to the ever-evolving and dynamic environment. On the other hand, the expeditionary framework has been receiving more recommendations as the most suitable organizational structure to be used in organizations today. The in-garrison framework as an organizational structure is dominated by self-contained hierarchical structures that have step chains of command commonly referred to as “Functional” (Hicks, 2008, p. 2). After extensive research, the expeditionary framework was developed by scholars to offer support to departments in an organization on more rotational and predictable grounds. Although still being practiced in some traditional organizations like the Department of Defense, the in-garrison structures seem to be disconnected from the modern expeditionary organizational framework.
