This week, you will be creating three activities that will become part of the infant room, early childhood room, and adolescent room of your center.

Physical development, especially in infancy and toddlerhood but also into middle and late childhood, is primarily focused on the development of fine and gross motor skills. But the milestones and activities for each age group are very different. In adolescence, the fine and gross motor skills have been mostly developed, and the focus is about strength and skill building as well as dealing with the effects of puberty.
For example,
Coloring or playing with clay would not be an appropriate activity for an infant to improve fine motor skills, but it would be for the early childhood room.
In middle and late childhood, children are developing the muscle mass to greatly improve their abilities to run and jump and play organized games, which would not be appropriate for infants or toddlers.
There are many websites aimed at both parents and educators that describe activities to promote physical development. The activities you select do not have to be complex, but they do need to be age appropriate and grounded in developmental milestones. Focus on the primary developmental tasks of each age period. For each of the three activities, write a paragraph that addresses the following:
Describe the age appropriate activity in some detail (provide more than just the name of the activity).
Identify developmental milestones which supports the use of this activity (Table 5.1 in your textbook will be useful here).
Identify how the activity supports physical development for that age group.

Age Appropriate Activity for Infants
Infants transform from floppy-head newborns to small people capable of sitting and playing when supported. Generally, Babies grow at their own pace, but some ways can encourage growth. An appropriate age activity for infants is baby sit-ups. When a baby gains sufficient head control, a caregiver should lay the baby on her back with their hands under the child’s arm and slowly guide him into a sitting position. Parents should repeat the process regularly as the baby gains strength and muscle tone by holding the baby’s hand and gently bringing him to a sitting position. Similar to adults, babies’ muscles strengthen when used frequently. The ability of babies to sit upright is a continuous process. Infants need to hold their heads up without support before they can sit. Next, the baby can practice sitting with the help of the parent. Later, the baby sits in a tripod position and uses one hand to support themselves as their strength develops (Fletcher, 2020). After good practice and tripod sitting, babies will start sitting up without their parents. Baby sit-ups help them become stronger since their bones and connective tissues charge gravity. As such, they become more robust as their body weight increases.
Age Appropriate Activity in Early Childhood
Bone-strengthening practices such as running are an age-appropriate activity in early childhood. Building healthy bones for children through lifestyle habits is crucial to preventing fractures and osteoporosis in adulthood. Osteoporosis is an infection that makes bones less dense and vulnerable to fractures. The infection is considered a childhood infection with old age impacts since the lifelong skeletal health is determined by bone mass acquired in childhood. The health habits for children can develop or destroy their bones as they grow. Bones are living tissues that change regularly, with old bones being eliminated and replaced with new bones.
