An internship is a requirement in most college programs. It allows the student to practice the theory they learned in class. I successfully took my internship program in Sinopharm Xinguang Medical Technology Co. Ltd. for five months, from July 25, 2022, to December 30, 2022. I interned for the database administrator position at the Department of Technology, where I worked eight hours daily for five days a week. This paper presents the profile of the company and my experience as an intern.
Sinopharm Xinguang Medical Technology Co. Ltd develops and produces medical apparatus and instruments, mainly endoscopes. It specializes in research and development, production, sales and after-sales services of medical endoscope systems and other minimally invasive surgical products. The company has developed into a leading manufacturer and leading service provider of all solutions related to the manufacturing of medical devices and minimally invasive surgeries by establishing an independent medical, industrial manufacturing system. The company is the result of a joint venture between Sinopharm group Yiguang Technology Co., Ltd., China Medical Devices Co., Ltd., and Haitai Xinguang, with the latter having a 49% stake. Currently, the firm is among the leading Chinese companies dealing with medical equipment.
My experience at Sinopharm Xinguang Medical Technology Co. Ltd was educative, informative and fascinating at the same time. I performed several duties during my five-month stay in this company. I managed the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System, data extraction and loading, hardware and software updates, hardware and software performance monitoring, configuring servers and databases, and preserving data integrity, among other related matters.
I applied various skills that I learned to execute these tasks. The first and most crucial skill is communication skills, oral and written. Communication is crucial because it is the foundation of smooth operations within the company. I communicated well with my supervisor, other senior staff, and interns in the company. These skills also helped me to write my weekly reports effectively, contributing to the success of my internship at Sinopharm Xinguang Medical Technology Co. Ltd.
