The Falchion Sword was one of the weapons from the Metropolitan Museum, which was of significant interest due to its physical appearance and history. The Falchion is a curved sword common in European countries from around 1200 A.D. Scholars classify the Falchion sword in the Storta family, which comprises single-edged swords such as the dussack and messer (Sartori, 2019). The sword comprises an interlaced decorated hilt and a long narrow blade. In the Czech Republic, the Falchion is a single-edged sword with a blade that broadens toward its point (Kadlec, 2019). The sword’s physical characteristics mean the Middle East influenced Spanish and Venetian art to manufacture this sword for combat and as a symbol of tenure. Scholars indicate that blacksmiths manufactured the Falchion sword in parts such as Brescia and later exported it to European countries in the Middle Ages because of their high demand (Tonelli et al., 2016). This sword was common among pirates, traders, and farmers in northern Italy, especially in the Renaissance era.
