Response on Peer-Review Process

Respond to at least one of your colleagues’ postings. Respond to a colleague who selected a different keyword topic than you did. Respond in one or more of the following ways:
Ask a probing question and provide insight into how you would answer your question and why.
Ask a probing question and provide the foundation, or rationale, for the question.
Expand on your colleague’s posting by offering a new perspective or insight.
Agree with a colleague and offer additional (new) supporting information for consideration.
Disagree with a colleague by respectfully discussing and supporting a different perspective.
Support your reply to a colleagues’ assignment post with at least one reference (textbook or other scholarly, empirical resources). You may state your opinion and/or provide personal examples; however, you must also back up your assertions with evidence (including in-text citations) from the source and provide a reference.

Peer-review to me is proof reading, editing, and reviewing reports, journal entries, and manuscripts. A reviewer should never show judgement or bias feedback no matter the topic or discussion. A reviewer should always give honest feedback because this will help the writer in the future, especially with proofing and rewriting. The benefit of peer-review is having your paper reviewed by more than 1 person. You will know what to fix, what does not make since, what to take out because it dos not belong. Rewriting will be very easy. Also, having an open discussion with reviewers is also a benefit to discuss verbally, better understanding of what others think about your paper. While the authors will not know the identity of the reviewers, the names, laboratories, and countries of origin of the authors are clearly stated at the top of the manuscript. This may lead to a prejudiced report on the paper; this prejudice may be either favorable or unfavorable in deciding the manuscript’s fate on. (Furman, B. L. (2015). This is not a benefit. Knowing who the writer is will increase bias feedback even though reviewers should have an open mind set. This person may not like this one, this one may be jealous of this one, a lot of childish things come into play. I do not believe the author should have its identity on the paper at all, so they receive a fully fair review.
If I were a researcher or journal editor, I would propose to not have the writer’s identity revealed so there is no bias feedback towards the writer. The writer will have a flawed paper when it comes to rewriting. I would also have an open discussions with reviewers behind a glass where the writer is not revealed, but can hear and understand what reviewers mean, and break down the paper so the writer can have a clear understanding on what needs revision, what is good to stay and what needs to be removed. Great revision!

Haft started experiencing issues with her body. First her eyes, thinking she needed new glasses, that was not the problem. Cathy started having problems with her bladder, later she started experiencing impaired balance. Followed by dizziness, leading to falls. Cathy did not know what was going on with her and became very worried because specialists were not able to identify what was causing these issues with her body, after subjecting her to many tests. Her husband started believing she was experiencing Alzheimer’s disease. That was not it either, until a Manhattan neurosurgeon observed her; sending her to a colleague, who had her undergo brain surgery which restored her functioning skills back together. Cathy’s issues were overlooked.
Why Do I Keep Getting Dizzy Spells?

I enjoyed both articles. The article I liked the most was my search, Dizzy and off-balance, in the Walden Library. This article, written by Dr. Ellie breaks down different symptoms and the diagnosis towards those symptoms. Whereas the Biopsychology News article I summarized does not tell what Cathy’s diagnoses was, once she met the Manhattan neurosurgeon’s colleague. I would’ve liked to know what her diagnosis was as the reviewer or reader, for the symptoms she was experiencing. The Walden Library article is very understanding, giving a lot of detail about the symptoms each patient was experiencing and what the diagnosis is for those symptoms given by Dr. Ellie. I believe the diagnosis is accurate because this a doctor. There was nothing accurate with the article about Cathy, accept her symptoms she was experiencing. Cathy’s Article was more of a personal article whereas Dr. Ellies article was more of article for patients, and I really appreciated the fact Dr. Ellie kept informing us to make sure we continue to seek guidance from our General Practitioner, better known as your Primary Doctor. In conclusion, I believe the benefits of each type of article for college students studying brain and behavior or researchers studying the brain to:
Have your self-checked by your Doctor.
Have all your proper research
Have accuracy
Be detailed
Have proper understanding for yourself and those reading your paper or research
